Yesterday was crazy.
It all started like this:
I was outside on the back porch swing, reading an enthralling book about etiquette whilst inside I had water and soup heating up on the stove. When, all of a sudden I heard this intense shrieking. Immediately I sprung up and located the source of this mysterious noise and I immediately called my dog off of the small rabbit she had found. Apparently she had stumbled upon a nest on the side of the house. There were three baby rabbits; two hopping about and the shrieking one that was bleeding from a small wound near it's tail. The dog had caught it. So I did what I do and I scooped it up and brought it inside so that I could rehabilitate and care for this helpless injured small creature of this world. I did go and diligently search through the grasses in the median of the road- where one of the small rabbits had hopped off and escaped to; but to no avail- and I was torn at the breakup of this innocent and new rabbit family. The girls [Marilyn particularly] has wanted a rabbit for so so long. She prays for a rabbit. Begs me for a rabbit. A few weeks ago she thought it wise to attempt to lure a rabbit into the yard for her capture. She planted baby carrots all over the front yard. That's probably what lured the mother rabbit into thinking that the side of my house was a proper nesting place for her babies-- nice hidden leafy brush and abundant easy food nearby. I've also read up that rabbits are not very intelligent; they serve as food to a great many things in the food chain; and they are reckless parents--checking in only once or twice a day for a small while.
But I took the baby rabbit inside. The wound wasn't deep; just a small puncture wound- something that should heal up in a week or sos time. This rabbit seemed older than the ones that Isa Cat found and brought to me last year (there were two babies that barely had their eyes opened) and it could hop and
While I was inspecting baby rabbit; I all of a sudden heard more intense shrieking and indeed- Isa cat had captured one of the other baby rabbits. With two baby rabbits in my arms; again, more shrieking was heard- and a third baby rabbit was delivered into my kitchen.
I had the whole nest of baby rabbits.
So that being that, of course I'm thrilled and excited to rehab and care for these adorable little things- of course we are going to let them go and release them back once one doesn't have an open wound and the other one's foot heals.
And that was Event A.
Events B and C then occurred while I was at class. It's not a regular class- it only meets like 5 times over the short semester- but tonight was a night I HAD to go. And about an hour and a half into class- a class located 40 minutes on the highway away- I get this cryptic message from my mom (who was watching the girls briefly while he went to work and I went to class) that Marilyn needs stitches. I then come to find out that not only does Marilyn have a big gash- but he had to take the dog to the vet because apparently something also happened with the dog.
I headed out and back home immediately. Shit goes crazy when I'm not around to keep it in line. Apparently.
Event B was this- while about to leave for work; he let the dog out and immediately she [Morticia- my dog] saw the Mother Rabbit and bolted after her and ran into a car. (Mother Rabbit was safe). He took her to the emergency animal clinic because she was all scraped up and now she has one of those plastic collars and antibiotic pills I have to give her for the next week or so.
Event C is when Marilyn fell off of the crumbly brick wall park of my neighbors driveway; while balancing and walking on it; and got a huge gash in her leg that then required 10 stitches. She doesn't handle pain or doctors very well at all.
Luckily; he was around and able to get home with the injured dog to take my then injured child to the emergency room for care. I rushed back from class as soon as I could.
Everything is fine today. Everything will be okay. Marilyn is tired and a bit worn out from her ordeal last night; but yesterday was the last day of school for her so she has no obligation to do anything at all other than to rest. Ticia is fine, a little spooked. Baby rabbits are great- they are cuddling together and eating the grass I am putting in there.
This is the way my life rolls- everything all at once- in one great collision of life and the forces that be.
Indeed.
